Mark Roach, the managing editor of English Repair Solutions,
obtained a B.Sc. in chemistry at Mount Allison University in Canada
in 1992 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of South
Carolina under the direction of Professor John H. Dawson in 1997.

He then obtained a postdoctoral fellowship from the Japan Society
for the Promotion of Science and worked in the laboratory of
Professor Yoshihito Watanabe at the Okazaki National Research
Institutes. During this time, he first became aware of the significant
hurdles encountered by non-native English speaking researchers
who wish to publish their research in English.

Upon completion of his JSPS fellowship, Mark worked as a
postdoctoral research associate in the laboratory of Professor David
B. Goodin at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California.

During these years as an academic researcher, Mark acquired
publishing experience by publishing several original research
articles and review articles in journals such as
Biochemistry,  the
Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Reviews, Acta
Crystallographica
, Coordination Chemistry Reviews, and Accounts of
Chemical Research
.  In addition, Mark acted as an editorial
assistant under Professor John H. Dawson, Chief Editor of the
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry.

In 2001, Mark took a position as a technical writer in the patent
department of a mid-sized biotech/pharmaceutical company in
Carlsbad, California. He became a qualified U.S. patent agent in
2003. Over the next three years, Mark developed and maintained the
patent portfolio for an emerging biosensor technology.

Mark moved to Ottawa, Canada in the summer of 2006 and now is
an associate at a leading Canadian Intellectual Property law firm. He
continues to assist international researchers in their efforts to
publish their research results in English language journals.
